Villa Castillo Nuevo - Restaurant Awards

Updated: Jun 4, 2019

We are extremely lucky to have such a wide range of fantastic restaurants to choose from. What makes us (and you) even luckier, is that some of the best restaurants around are in our local town of San Miguel de Salinas. So, we thought we would create our own Villa Castillo Nuevo Restaurant Awards and share our top picks with you. In no particular order…..

DINING EXPERIENCE Las Cuevas (San Miguel de Salinas) € € Set in the old caves of San Miguel this is truly a unique and stunning dining experience. Dine inside the caves in the privacy of your own private ‘cave corner’, take a spot outside under the canopy or step out onto the roof of the caves with views across San Miguel de Salinas. Wherever you choose to dine you can sample the fantastic value Menu del Dia ( € 10.95), Taster Menu or tuck into some tapas or a T-bone steak. Every dish is immaculately presented, with just enough variety to meet the needs of a family with diverse tastes without hindering the quality of food. We can highly recommend the Gazpacho Andaluz with glass bread, tomato and anchovies, followed by the Penne Pasta with Duck and wild mushroom truffle sauce.

PAELLA AT ITS BEST Meson el Prado (San Miguel de Salinas)

€ € It may be a bold statement, but we can safely say “Meson el Prado does the best Paella around”. We have sampled a fair few Paella’s in the region, and nothing compares. Packed full of flavour and ingredients you will find yourself fighting over the scraps at the bottom of the pan. If Paella isn't for you, they also offer a very good Menu del Dia.

MENU DEL DIA Dona Isabel (San Miguel de Salinas)

A traditional Spanish restaurant in the heart of San Miguel de Salinas, Dona Isabel is always buzzing with both locals and tourists. Offering up a fantastic 3 course Menu de Dia including bread and aioli, salad and half a bottle of wine each for just 9.50eu, it’s no wonder the place is always packed. Don’t even try to get in on market day without a reservation. They always have a varied menu which changes daily; you can check it out on their Facebook page here.

STEAK – ENOUGH SAID! Che!!! Argentinian steak house (Villamartin Plaza)

€ € € You know a chef takes pride in his food when you are asked by waiting staff to cut open your steak to ensure it is cooked to your liking. This got one giant thumbs up, especially from our own Rob, a trained chef. The steak at Che!!! Is mouth-wateringly delicious and of course, cooked to perfection.

A SLICE OF LUXURY

€ € €

We blogged about Rebate last year (check it our here) and we couldn’t resist including it in our top picks. Restaurant Rebate really is special. Enjoy their exquisitely presented 6 course taster menu, complete with wine pairing under a stunning canopy of trees. If you head along on a Wednesday or Friday afternoon you will be treated to a beautiful flamenco show.

TRADITIONAL TAPAS Meson Rincon de Paco (San Miguel de Salinas)

If you are looking for some traditional Spanish tapas pull up a stool at Meson Rincon de Paco and eat your heart out. Stocked daily with fresh, homemade tapas including various meat, seafood and salads. If you are an early bird, then head down for the best coffee and tostada in the village to set you up for the day.
